Exercise Software for Individuals with Cerebral Palsy

Nancy Finnie Cerebral Palsy Book

As part of last years Managing Children with Cerebral Palsy course participants had free access to explore the PhysioTools module that has been created specifically for clinicians who work with individuals with Cerebral Palsy.

Handling the Young Child with Cerebral Palsy at Home, based on the Finne book of the same name, is for therapists, teachers, doctors and nurses to provide handouts with practical suggestions for parents and carers regarding the handling of their child during routine activities. It includes advice about activities, lifting, handling, aids to mobility, equipment, feeding, fine motor skills, dressing, sleeping and communication plus educational information. Fundamental to the successful treatment of children with cerebral palsy is the cooperation of the parents in home handling. The age group covered is from infancy up to 5 years – a time when a child is handled and taught mainly by the parents.

Nancie Finnie was one of the first therapists to consider the problems of cerebral palsy from a practical and functional point of view. The first edition of her book in 1968 provided new perspectives on the management of young children with CP. Finnie understood the needs of the children at home, in their own environments, together with their families. The book has stood the test of time and is widely read and translated through the world. The fourth edition was edited by Ewa Bauer and it is dedicated to the late Nancie Finnie.

My interest in health and fitness started at a young age. Even though I had been educated and trained as an engineer in Europe I always want to follow my passion. I have made some guest appearances on a health educational program TV in Europe and, this experience, has made me follow my passion of sharing wellness information with others.
