As this week is Parkinson’s Disease awareness week it is important we share stories of how our profession can help those with the debilitating neurodegenerative disorder. So please feel free to let us know if there are any case studies or sentiments you wish to share.

As mentioned in a previous news post this week is Parkinson’s Disease awareness week and it is important to spread the message of how physiotherapy can help those affected. It has been shown that physiotherapy can be beneficial in the short and long term in helping those with PD maintain independent good quality life.

The two main areas of physiotherapy intervention are exercise and movement strategy training with a focus on strength and balance to offset one of the most common symptoms – falls. Other areas include respiratory function, pain, overall well-being and cognition. The stance of intervention depends on which stage of the disease the person with PD is in at the time.

Please take time to watch the videos below, they really show the efficacy of physiotherapy intervention when working with persons with PD. Don’t forget to get involved on social media using #UniteForParkinsons

My interest in health and fitness started at a young age. Even though I had been educated and trained as an engineer in Europe I always want to follow my passion. I have made some guest appearances on a health educational program TV in Europe and, this experience, has made me follow my passion of sharing wellness information with others.
