The Evolution of EMR, EHR, and Practice Management


The use of electronic medical records (EMRs) and electronic health records (EHRs) has become more widespread across the healthcare spectrum over the last several years for numerous reasons––they make data capture much more efficient, patient information more accessible, and true interoperability more possible. While there’s no question that advancements across these software solutions have revolutionized modern healthcare facilities around the world, there remains a bit of a gray area. When it comes to EMRs and EHRs, what’s the difference?

As it turns out, the answer depends on the system and even who you ask. We recently dug into the history of EMRs and EHRs to uncover how these systems came about, how they’ve transformed over the years, and what they look like today.
